While working as a bookbinder’s apprentice, Lily finds hidden pages under the binding of a book that tell part of a forbidden love story. Lily makes it her mission to find the rest of the story and find out what happened to the people in it. But she’s not the only one looking, and the mission becomes more dangerous than she anticipated.

This historical mystery was captivating for several reasons. First, I really enjoyed the bookbinding information and the way it was presented in the story. It seems like an interesting profession and one I didn’t know much about. Lily is a strong main character, maybe more progressive than the setting would normally indicate, but I loved cheering for her throughout the story. The mix of historical fiction with a compelling mystery was fun. This was a great read!
